The nation's highest court says it will decide if local governments can be sued for failing to enforce retraining orders.
The case comes from Colorado, where a mother tried to sue police after her three children were killed by their father.
She says police ignored multiple phone calls for help when he showed up at her house and took the young girls. She had been estranged from him and had obtained a restraining order from a court.
The Supreme Court will now decide if the mother can pursue a $30 million lawsuit against the city. She claims her constitutional due process rights were violated because the city did not enforce the restraining order.
