High Rise Hawks

Pale Male Red Tail Hawk

If Pale Male rebuilds his home, one of the red-tailed hawk's biggest boosters may have a hard time seeing it.

The bird is at the center of a New York City controversy that involves nature versus the harsh city environment, and a fancy Fifth Avenue apartment building against bird-watchers.

None of the watchers is more passionate than Associated Press Television engineer Lincoln Karim, who has now agreed to stay 1,000 feet away from TV interviewer Paula Zahn and her family.

Zahn's husband heads the co-op board. Karim was arrested for allegedly harassing the family.

The board, meanwhile, has agreed to help Pale Male rebuild the nest. If he comes back.
