An embarrassment for airport baggage screeners in Newark, New Jersey.
Officials say the screeners at Newark Liberty International Airport spotted -- and then lost -- a fake bomb planted on luggage yesterday during a training exercise.
They say the machine that screens the bags sounded an alarm -- but workers somehow lost track of the bag, which was then loaded onto a flight bound for Amsterdam.
Once it arrived in Europe, the device was found -- complete with wires, a detonator and a clock.
A spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration says the incident underscores the importance of ongoing training exercises. She says no one was in any danger.
