Pauline Gore Dies

Former Vice President Al Gore's mother has died.

Pauline Gore died today in her hometown of Carthage, Tennessee at the age of 92. It's not known what caused her death, but she had been weakened in recent years by strokes and a heart attack.

Gore was a familiar figure on the campaign trials of her son as well as husband, Al Gore Senior, who served in the House and Senate for more than 30 years.

During the 1992 Clinton-Gore campaign, she participated in a seven-week bus tour that made many stops at senior citizens' gatherings.

Pauline Gore once said she never encouraged her son to go into politics. She'd hoped he would become a lawyer.
