School children in Iraq soon will receive much needed school supplies and sports equipment. Mary Sessions, wife of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, Friday mailed 10 boxes to organizers of Operation Iraqi Children.

Mrs. Sessions said she decided to spearhead the effort after reading an article about the program founded by actor Gary Sinise and writer Laura Hillenbrand. She said the supply kits were donated by members of the Ashland Place United Methodist Church in Mobile and students at the University of South Alabama.

FedEx will deliver the supplies free of charge to an American base in Iraq.
