A Marine who lived through the Columbine High School shooting rampage has been killed in action in Iraq.
U-S military officials confirm that Lance Corporal Greg Rund died in fighting over the weekend. It happened during his second tour of duty in Iraq.
The 21-year-old was a freshman at Columbine in Colorado when two
student gunmen killed 12 students, a teacher, and then themselves in April of 1999. Rund's family says he had talked about joining the service throughout high school and enlisted shortly after graduation.
A family statement describes how Rund saw a need and a calling in the Marines, but that "neither Columbine nor Iraq" would define him.
