In Panama City, shortly after midnight last night, Sgt. Tony Walker of the Bay County Sheriff’s office approached a vehicle which was driven by 34-year old Eric C. Wilkes of Orlando.
Police say Wilkes gunned the engine and the car plunged forward, hitting Sgt. Walker and throwing him up on the windshield.
The impact shattered the windshield and Sgt. Walker rolled off the hood of the car and landed on his feet, weapon drawn.
Sgt. Walker fired several times into the car, hitting Wilkes.
Wilkes was taken to a local medical hospital and received treatment.
He has been released and is currently in the Bay County Jail.
Drugs were found in the vehicle Wilkes was driving.
