Houston County residents are getting one step closer to having a new bridge over Brannon Stand Road.
Starting Thursday, the county will begin cutting down trees and clearing land west of the bridge.
This preparation will pave the way for construction of the new detour that will allow busses and cars to travel through the area during the building phase of the new bridge.
Once the detour is in place, construction will begin on the new bridge.
The 1.8 million dollar bridge project is scheduled to begin in June of next year and will take about 4-months to complete.
Every day about 10,000 vehicles use the bridge at beaver creek on Brannon Stand Road.
