Rabies Confirmed in Houston County

Houston County is reporting 10 cases of rabies during 2007 less than half of what we saw this time last year.

Two new cases were reported this week; one rabid raccoon in the fox ridge neighborhood of Dothan and one in Avon, a town in Houston County.

Health officials are encouraging residents to be aware of rabid animals even during the winter months.

Last year the Houston County Health Department recorded 22 cases of rabies.

Officials say they aren't sure if cases are actually down or if fewer cases are being reported.
