The guest speaker at Geneva Middle School Veterans Day program is a hometown hero.
Mark McDuffie is a 1997 graduate of Geneva High.
In March, while serving in Iraq with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, he received serious injuries to his feet and body from a roadside bomb.
In the last eight months, he has undergone 28 surgeries on his feet.
However, Mark's message is one of hope. "It’s we are winning the war, and that it's important, [that’s] why we are there. No matter how tough things [are], there is someone worse than you. And, that thought helped me get back on my feet."
Mark soon plans to retire from the Air Force with 10-years of military experience.
He and his wife live in Geneva.
