Rehobeth Teacher Pleads Guilty to Gun Violation

DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - A Houston County school teacher who pleaded guilty to bringing a gun on school grounds will be allowed to keep his job.

47-year-old Andrew Martin, a teacher at Rehobeth Middle School, pleaded guilty to carrying a pistol without a permit. He was arrested in August.

At a hearing yesterday in district court, Martin told a judge he had used the .45 caliber pistol during a weekend outing in Florida and forgot to remove the weapon from his vehicle.

He was given a 10 day suspended sentence and fined $50.00, plus court costs.

The refusal of the resource officer to allow the pre-trial diversion program for this teacher is cowardly. If you steal from a company or citizen, injure someone, and have numerous convictions on your record, you will receive the benefit of the program and the victim will have no say so about it and live in fear. But, if your feelings get hurt because people are upset with you because you are on a power trip and want to make an example of someone, you have the right to continue to remain on that power trip and attempt to destroy someone. This resource officer should be ashamed of his cowardice and go away. Far away from this poor teacher. The only victim is this teacher. Shame, Shame on them.
