MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Alabama's top doctor is expected to
issue a list of recommendations Monday regarding staph infections.
The germ (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) is associated with skin infections, but also causes blood infections, pneumonia and other illnesses.
Clusters of staph infections have recently been reported in Alabama schools.
To reduce the possibility of getting a staph infection, federal health officials have recommended washing hands, not sharing personal items such as towels and razors, keeping wounds clean and covered, and not coming into contact with others' bandages or wounds.
