Seven Year Old Hit by School Bus

A freak run in with a school bus leaves a young girl with a broken arm.

Officials say 7-year-old Abbygail Cellars of Headland was hit by a school bus her grandmother was driving this morning.

Authorities say Abbygail's grandmother was trying to maneuver the bus off Henry County Road 51 to get her granddaughter out of the rain and accidentally hit her.

Abbygail was taken to southeast Alabama Medical Center for treatment.

I am a school bus driver for Dothan. I know how hard it is to see everything out the windows, esp. in the dark. The driver did everything she could. It was just one of those things they call FREAK accidents. They happen, and are what they are.. ACCIDENTS. I am glad the little girl is alright. The good lord was watching her that morning.

First of all, before passing judgment or writing about something you should know your facts. My mother (the grandmother) has been driving a bus for 20 years. She also has been an ambulance driver for several years as well. Whether she be driving a bus or an ambulance her passenger's safety comes first and foremost. It bewilders me that people can be so simple minded about things. I mean stop and think about what you are saying before passing judgment. How would you feel if this was you, your child or loved one? My neice will overcome this ordeal long before my mother will. My mother is a very loving, caring, compassionate person and loves her children, grandchildren dearly and would never intentionally hurt anyone.

First of all,The grandmother is devastated. This took place at 6:00 a.m.on a morning it was pouring down rain and also dark. That is when these kids catch the schoolbus.Abby heard her grandmother start the bus up and thought she was being left and ran out of the house.Abby stated that she slipped from running and fell, slipped, slide or whatever an unfortunate accident for all involved. She suffered a broken leg not an ARM.Abby's leg is healing nicely,as for the grandmother's license being taken away it isn't going to happen. This busdriver has been a driver for the same school system for almost 30 years, she is very capable and trustworthy. This is not just my opinion it is fact, you see I am the grandmother's daughter, Abby's Aunt and also the first EMT/FIREFIGHTER on this scene and also I live next door.I'm sure that in any of our nearby counties, they will gladly accept application's if someone is willing to apply and has CDL's can pass a drug test, background check they are short handed.
