Students Gather at Florida Capitol to Protest Boot Camp Verdict

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - A group of college students gathered outside the state Capitol Friday afternoon to protest verdict in the boot camp trial in Panama City.

About a hundred students from Florida State and Florida A-and-M universities say justice was denied.

They say they're appalled by Friday's verdict.

Some of those at the protest promised to continue their fight for justice.

Eight former boot camp workers were acquitted of manslaughter in the death of 14-year-old Martin Lee Anderson who was videotaped being punched and kicked.

The defendants would have faced up to 30 years in prison had they been convicted of aggravated manslaughter of child. The jury also decided against convicting them of lesser charges, including child neglect and culpable negligence.
