Tuesday morning in downtown Dothan, police and Houston County sheriff's deputies responded to what was initially a report of a hostage situation at Advantage Bonding.
“Weapons down” was the call at 9:20 Tuesday morning outside of the Advantage Bonding building in downtown Dothan. But that call only came after more information into what happened in the morning was revealed.
Dothan Chief John Powell said, "Conversation takes place, he pulls a knife and the people who work inside the business defend themselves. Of course it escalates and the person who pulled the knife tells the police that somebody had pulled a gun on him."
That person who pulled the knife made the report to police Tuesday morning. After the guns and knife made their appearance he went to the police.
Owner of Advantage Bonding, Ricky Stokes said, "A guy came in and started demanding that we would do certain things on someone, putting him back in jail. He reached for a knife and it escalated and the bondsmen grabbed his gun and backed him back down."
Dothan Police and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office were on the scene in minutes Tuesday as the events literally unfolded footsteps away from the police department.
"Both the police department and sheriff’s office responded within seconds after being notified,” Powell said. “Contact was made with the individuals inside the business. They came out and it was resolved without any injuries or any problems."
The employees, who were involved with the incident at Advantage Bonding, were visibly upset as they left the building, having been initially reported as hostage takers when apparently they were defending themselves.
However, if this event is marked down as a test on officer and deputy response time, they pass with flying colors.
The report given to police said that a man was inside the building with a shotgun and that's what caused the immediate reaction by law enforcement.
But thankfully, no one was hurt and the situation was resolved peacefully.
At last report, no charges have been filed in connection with this incident.
