Governor Declares October "Alabama Food Products Month"

UNDATED, Ala. (AP) - Governor Bob Riley has declared October "Alabama Food Products Month" a time to showcase food made and grown across the state in Alabama stores.

State Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks said during the month
grocers will be setting aside shelf space for Alabama food products
and coupons for those products will be distributed to customers.

Sparks said the state's food products industry creates an annual
economic impact of over $2 billion.

Many retailers will be participating in the "Buy Alabama's Best" campaign. A portion of the sales generated by the effort will be donated to the Janie Sims Children's Foundation.

Its a nonprofit group dedicated to helping children with cancer and
funding research into pediatric cancer.
