Alabama Governor Grants 45-day Stay of Execution for Arthur

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Governor Bob Riley has granted a stay of execution for 45 days for Tommy Arthur, who was scheduled to die Thursday evening for a 1982 contract murder.

Riley said he granted the stay in order for the state prison system to make a change in the way it administers lethal injections.

The governor approved the change in lethal injection procedures Wednesday, but the change could not be made in time for the Arthur execution.
