Methodist bishop comforts Ala church after slaying

GARDENDALE, Ala. (AP) -- The United Methodist bishop for north Alabama is trying to comfort members of a large church where the senior pastor is charged with murder in his wife's gunshot killing.

Gardendale police say the Rev. Terry Greer is charged with murder in the shooting death of his wife Lisa Greer, who was slain in the church-owned parsonage last Thursday.

Bishop Debra Wallace-Padgett preached Sunday in all three services at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church.

AL.com reports (http://bit.ly/10sF4os ) that the bishop told members people are feeling heavy-hearted about what happened. And she reminded them of the Bible story about Jesus calming the waters in a storm.
