"Thanksgiving means probably that turkey right there," White Oak Pastures’ President Will Harris said.
Along with turkey - "Thanksgiving is the opportunity to reflect and express gratitude for the gifts of family, home and heritage. It means a lot to us," Harris said.
Family is something Will Harris knows very well.
"My family's raised livestock here five generations, almost a century and a half," Harris said.
Over those five generations they've developed a unique operation.
They produce grass-fed beef and free range poultry.
Harris says they focus on a certain set of values.
"High animal welfare, high focus on environmental sustainability. Everything we do here is an effort to emulate nature. We give animals the opportunity to express their instinctive behavior," Harris said.
The Thanksgiving season brings some new feathery friends.
They have 5,000 turkeys for the season.
"This is our fourth year raising thanksgiving turkeys, heritage breeds, these birds can fly. They can land in the trees and roost," Harris said.
From the trees to your family's table.
"We will slaughter our turkey the day before Thanksgiving, and we'll be slaughtering turkeys right up until Thanksgiving so they will be incredibly fresh," Harris said.
Fresh, local and just in time for your family feast.
