Families in Blakely, Ga. have a way to open Christmas presents with their fathers that are behind bars. Incarcerated fathers handed out gifts to their children at the Early County Jail.
The gathering also included refreshments for the families to enjoy. First term Sheriff, William C. Price is bringing something new to the Early County jail house, He says children of incarcerated parents shouldn't feel left out during the Christmas holidays.
"This is just an effort to give back to the community. Bringing law enforcement and the community back together and let kids know that everyone makes mistakes but they have to learn from their mistakes and still love their loved ones no matter the situation," said Price.
Toys were donated through local businesses including a few bikes from Mayor Anthony Howard.
The Sheriff's Office began collecting toys for the families’ right after Thanksgiving. He plans on making this an annual event.
