Woman Dies Near Fountain on Georgia College Campus

AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities in south Georgia are investigating the death of a college student at a fountain on the campus of South Georgia Technical College in Americus.

Sumter County Chief Deputy Col. Eric Bryant tells The Americus Times-Recorder (http://bit.ly/QgRndr) the 19-year-old woman was pulled from the fountain around 5 p.m. Thursday.

Sumter County coroner Greg Hancock identified the woman as Andriana Rhine of Richland. He says an autopsy has been completed at the GBI's State Crime Lab. But he says the cause of death is still under investigation pending the results of toxicology and histology tests.

Bryant says Rhine's 3-year-old daughter was also pulled from the fountain and survived.

The college said in a statement the woman was an adult education student and extended condolences to her family and friends.
