Wanted Fugitive Captured in Jackson County

At approximately 1:40pm, on this date, officers from the Florida Department of Corrections K-9 Tracking Team, along with officers from the Marianna Police Department, and officers from the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Cody Earl Eakin of Decatur County, Georgia. Eakin was wanted there for burglary and auto theft charges. At approximately 7:00am, Eakin was spotted by deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in the area of the Oak Station Shopping center. Eakin fled into a wooded area near the Chipola River and remained at large for several hours before being apprehended. Eakin is being held on warrants from Decatur County, Georgia as well as several local charges. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and further details will be released at a later time. Sheriff Roberts wishes to thank the assisting agencies for their assistance in apprehending Eakin.
