GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Officials in Hall County are working to determine whether a landfill owned by Gov. Nathan Deal's business partner may have violated zoning rules by composting food waste.
A landfill in Hall County has been drawing complaints from neighbors about the smell for months.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/RXOlwS ) reported Wednesday the landfill, owned by Ken Cronan, has been processing food refuse and that neighbors have been complaining about the smell for months.
Earlier this year, Cronan received state permits that would allow the site, originally zoned to accept construction and demolition-related materials, to begin a composting operation and accept food waste.
However, Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell told the newspaper that county officials never approved those changes. A spokeswoman for Hall County said officials are reviewing the landfill to determine what activities are taking place.
