Savannah police are investigating after firefighters discovered a body inside a burning vehicle.

The body was found early Sunday after firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the Yamacraw Village public housing complex near downtown.

Savannah-Chatham County police spokeswoman Gena Bilbo says the body was spotted as the flames were being extinguished.

Violent crimes detectives and forensics specialists were called to the scene.

No other details were immediately available Sunday.
