Planning Group Explores Future of Macon's Airport

MACON, Ga. (AP) -- A group of central Georgians studying the future of Macon's airport recommends that it should concentrate on increasing technical jobs related to aviation.

Middle Georgia Regional Airport manager Doug Faour said a planning session Wednesday explored future demand at the airport, what it would take to meet that demand, and how to pay for needed improvements.

The Telegraph of Macon reports that a new passenger carrier is scheduled to start daily flights from Macon to Atlanta on Dec. 1, but the planning group believes the central Georgia airport should not count on that continuing indefinitely.

They recommend that the airport focus on increasing aviation-related technical jobs, such as those provided by current tenants Timco, Bombardier and Boeing.
