Developers are seeking permission to build two hotels, new retail space and a parking garage on Savannah's downtown riverfront.
Plans unveiled Thursday to the city's Historic District Board of Review would place a hotel, four retail buildings and a 500-space parking garage on more than 4 acres of waterfront property formerly used by Georgia Power on the east end of downtown Savannah. Another hotel would be built across the street.
The Savannah Morning News reports the project as proposed would require Savannah officials to amend height restrictions for the city's downtown historic district because the riverfront hotel and parking garage would be taller than currently allowed.
The property includes Georgia Power's former regional headquarters and a fenced-off parking lot used by employees.
