The city of Blakely is upgrading its sewer system.
It's thanks to a $500,000 grant from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
The money will be used to improve the sewer system on Lee and Jackson streets.
Mayor Anthony Howard says those areas are under-served low-to-moderate income communities.
"When we get big rains like we got in the last several months our sewer system gets overrun with ground water and this will help to eliminate that infiltration of ground water by rehabbing the sewer lines in these areas," said Howard.
Work is expected to start next Spring.
