Nearly 300 Illegal Guns Seized in Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) -- Law enforcement officials made more than 60 arrests and confiscated nearly 300 illegal firearms in an undercover bust in southwest Atlanta.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates made the announcement Wednesday about the bust. Yates says a fake storefront on Metropolitan Parkway was set up by undercover agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives working with Atlanta police officers.

The 14-month investigation called "Operation Trap Door" was designed to focus on illegal gun trafficking in Atlanta. The undercover business operated as a cellphone and vehicle alteration business.

Defendants were indicted on charges ranging from possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of an unregistered sawed-off firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful dealing in firearms without a license and possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute.
