Mom, Baby Die After Car Hit by Train in Houston Co

MACON, Ga. (AP) -- A coroner says a woman and her infant daughter died at a hospital in Macon after the car they were riding in was hit by a train in Houston County.

Houston County coroner Danny Galpin tells WMAZ-TV ( ) that Donnell Reid and her 1-month-old daughter, Kinsley, were pronounced dead at hospitals following the crash.

Galpin says the child's father, Willy Lyons, was driving the vehicle when the accident happened around 5 p.m. Sunday. Lyons underwent surgery at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. Galpin says authorities believe Lyons didn't see the train.

Galpin did not have an update on Lyons' condition.

The Houston County Emergency Management Agency says the Houston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the accident.

I was hit by a train back in 1985, The doctor told me I was very lucky that most do not make it. I thank God for saving me! The accident was not my fault. The area where it happened was all grown up with weeds and boxcars were lined up blocking my view from even seeing the train coming and the train was also going past its speed limit for being in the city. I pray the family looks into why this happened.
