Gov. Deal Forming Committee to Recommend Replacements for Miller Co. School Board

ATLANTA (AP) -- Gov. Nathan Deal plans to remove the members of the troubled Miller County school board under a new law passed last year.

Deal's spokesman Brian Robinson said Monday the governor is forming a committee to recommend people to serve the remainder of the five-member board's terms. He said new members must be named before the current board members can be officially removed from office.

State officials recommended in March that the governor oust the Miller County board over evidence that the members threatened to fire employees and hurled expletives at each other in meetings.

Miller County is on probation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in part because of the board's behavior.

School district officials did not immediately return a request for comment.
