No charges for Macon judge who tested over limit
MACON, Ga. (AP) -- A Macon judge who registered over the limit for alcohol during a roadside breath test will not face criminal charges.
Bibb County sheriff's deputies allowed Superior Court Judge Howard Simms to drive home Sept. 22 after a breath test showed he was just over the legal limit.
The Telegraph of Macon (http://bit.ly/S81xOQ ) reports that police didn't write a report or perform additional tests.
Bibb County Solicitor Otis Scarbary said he and another prosecutor met with police to discuss the case. But he said there are no reports or statements. Sheriff Jerry Modena said additional reports and tests might have helped build a case.
Two deputies were reprimanded and suspended after the incident. Simms said in an earlier statement that he was seeking treatment for an alcohol addiction.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- A Democratic congressman from Georgia will need to win over Republicans in his district to win re-election, and he's working hard to make the pitch. Rep. John Barrow of Augusta is counting on crossover votes who appreciate his work for the district separate from national Democratic policies.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Former Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter says bribery was common business practice in local government. Lasseter pleaded guilty in May to a bribery charge and will soon begin serving a 33-month prison term. She accepted $36,500 from an FBI agent posing as a businessman who wanted her vote on a real estate development.

ATLANTA (AP) -- The medical examiner's office is trying to identify the remains of a woman found under a home in southwest Atlanta. A police dog alerted authorities Thursday to the remains.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- The trial of a man accused of killing four people has started in Gwinnett County. Richard Ringold could face the death penalty if he is convicted of going on a shooting rampage in 2009 that killed his girlfriend, Antonia Butler, her 11-year-old daughter, Jhane Thomas, and two other adults inside the home.
