AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) -- The state Board of Regents has approved a proposal to raise tuition for students at Georgia's public colleges and universities.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the board is meeting Tuesday in Americus to vote on tuition hikes between $31 and $218 more per semester starting in the fall.
The biggest bumps are at Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia and Georgia State University. Those are between $127 and $218 per semester. The three schools have historically charged the same tuition rates, but system officials say the change puts the institutions more on par with peer schools in other states.
The increase means most students will pay more out of pocket because HOPE scholarship awards will remain flat.
