Ga. Woman Arrested in Plot to Kill Ex-Husband

DALLAS, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities in Paulding County say a 48-year-old woman has been arrested in a plot to kill her ex-husband.

County sheriff's officials say Melissa Bennett Silvers, a daycare teacher, was arrested at her job after negotiating the plot with an undercover officer.

Authorities say Silvers spoke with the officer by phone and met with him Dec. 13 to finalize the plan and to settle on a price for the slaying.

Officials say Silvers arranged for her ex-husband to receive a load of firewood and asked the undercover agent to pose as a delivery driver who would shoot him. Officials say the two divorced in January, but continued living together.

Silvers is being held in the Paulding County Detention Center and it was not known if she has a lawyer.
