The Georgia senate is losing a veteran lawmaker.
Republican senator John Bulloch resigned.
It's not clear why he's stepping down.
Bulloch served district 11... which includes Early , Seminole and Miller counties.
With the resignation, former republican congressional candidate and state representative Mike Keown announced his campaign for state senate.
Keown will qualify to run in the special election Monday morning, December 10th at the state capitol
The special election is scheduled for January 8th.
