FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) -- Army cooks from Fort Stewart are bringing home serious bragging rights from the annual military culinary competition, where they won awards for top chef and installation of the year.

The team of 19 Georgia-based soldier-cooks took on teams from across the Army at Fort Lee, Va., in the competition that ended Friday. The Fort Stewart team won 21 gold medals, three silver medals and one bronze medal.

The Army culinary competition featured 22 teams and 335 individual cooks squaring off in more than 850 categories. Events included preparing full meals, appetizers, finger foods and desserts.

Fort Stewart's team also won top honors for best student chef and student team.

This was the first year since 2007 that Fort Stewart competed with a full team because of heavy deployment schedules.
