COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- A Fort Benning soldier has died after crashing his motorcycle in Columbus.
Columbus Police Sgt. Tim Wynn tells the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer that 24-year-old Stacy Willis crashed just after 6 a.m. Friday as he exited Interstate 85. Coroner Bill Thrower says Willis was pronounced dead 50 minutes later.
He died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Willis, who was from Tifton, was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Wynn says the crash happened when Willis made an improper lane change.
Willis lost control of the motorcycle in the curve and hit a guardrail.
The crash remains under investigation.
