FORT BENNING, Ga. (AP) -- Fort Benning is getting a $7.9 million
facility for issuing clothing and equipment to troops in training
and military personnel deploying to and from various missions.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says the new facility will be
in the Sand Hill area of the post.
The Columbus ledger-Enquirer reports the corps says the single-story warehouse will be able to outfit up to 7,500 soldiers.
Sand Hill is the area where the U.S. Army trains ground troops
for combat. It is also near the U.S. Armor School training
facilities that opened this year after being relocated from Fort
Knoxville, Tenn.-based Anthony & Gordon Construction Inc. was
awarded the contract for the 40,000-square-foot structure.
It is scheduled to be completed by May 2013.
