A Southwest Georgia county is changing the way they collect garbage.
They're ditching the dumpsters in favor of a trash compactor.
Early County has joined the city of Blakely in adding a compactor to the transfer station.
They hope to have it up and running on July 14th.
The compactor is located on North Main Street.
County employees say it's replacing the green dumpsters which are unsanitary.
They say there was problem keeping them clean and the wind would blow the trash around.
With the new compactor, trash will only be able to get in.
There is a safety device in place to make sure no one gets hurt.
The compactor will be open 24/7.
During business hours there will be a worker on site to help with collection.
The county hopes to hire a part-time employee for after hours.
They hope to add two more compactors at different locations by the end of the year.
