Crowd Turns Out for Veterans Day Parade in Atlanta

ATLANTA (AP) -- Hundreds of people turned out for a parade marking Veterans Day in downtown Atlanta.

Vietnam veteran Roger Ware of Norcross wore his old Air Force flight suit to the parade. He said he participated because he wanted to support veterans old and new. He said he flew a gunship during two tours in Vietnam from 1968 to 1972.

Ware said veterans were less popular with the public in the aftermath of the unpopular Vietnam War. Ware said he thinks there is more support now for veterans of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Ebony Gurndy paused to watch the parade with her two daughters. Her grandfather and brother were in the military, and Gurndy said she used the parade to explain to her 3-year-old daughter why the holiday exists.
