COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- The mayor of Columbus wants to revoke the alcoholic beverage license of a nightclub where one person was killed and six others injured by gunfire on New Year's Day.
Reports say that Mayor Teresa Tomlinson has notified the owner of Club Majestic, James Weaver Jr., about her plans to recommend the Columbus Council revoke the license.
The city earlier started a process to shut down the club as a public license, but revoking the alcoholic beverage license could occur quicker. The council will consider the license revocation March 12.
A 24-year-old college student, Charles Foster, was fatally shot at the club and six other men and women were injured inside and outside the club. Police charged 21-year-old Dequandrea Truitt and 20-year-old Shaquille Porter with murder and assault.
