The numbers are in and Alabama's out look might not be so great when it comes to traffic fatalities...right now the state ranks number three in the nation.
Driving, nearly 75% of Americans do it everyday, but the things that distract us can cause traffic accidents and unfortunately fatalities.
Alabama saw a fatality rate of 100,000 residents alone making it the most third dangerous state to drive in.
What has a lot to do with fatalities in Alabama is being unfamiliar with the roadway.
"There maybe an area, coming up in the roadway that you're not familiar with, curves thing of that nature, or just a lot of blind spots, " says Sgt. Rachel David.
One thing to always remember is to obey all traffic laws.
"We certainly just encourage people to make sure they are obeying those laws that are there to protect them, " says Sgt. Rachel David.
"One thing you always want to do to avoid any accident let alone a fatality is to follow the speed limit, never go above it or below it."
"Speeds are definitely a factor in crashes those that are traveling above the posted speed limit often time speed is a cause factor in the loss of control, "says Sgt. Rachel David.
Recently in Dothan there have been a total of five fatalities...the top three reasons were running a red light, failure to yield right of way or an inattentive driver.
"That can be anything from the commonly spoken of texting and driving, to distracted by other things inside and outside the vehicle," says Sgt. Rachel David.
Distractions that may cost you your life.
Of course police and the department of highway safety always encourage drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts because that also cuts down on traffic fatalities.
