Macon-Area Man Sentenced in Double Murder

MACON, Ga. (AP) - A 44-year-old Macon man convicted of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend after catching the couple in bed has been sentenced to two life sentences.

Kenneth Stokes told a Bibb County Superior Court that he drove to 27-year-old Melody Marie Benoit's Vivian Drive home in May 2009 and found her with 34-year-old Kelvin Prater. One of Benoit's three children discovered the pair dead in the bed with multiple gunshot wounds early May 3 and called 911.

Dothan, Ala., police later arrested Stokes following a traffic stop and he was extradited to Georgia.

Stokes told the court he carried a gun in his trunk following an incident while traveling for work.
