Georgia Sues Over Government Healthcare

Gov. Sonny Perdue said Friday that an amended complaint was filed Friday that added Georgia to the 19 other states suing to find the law unconstitutional.

Perdue said the recently enacted health care law "will exact a huge cost on our state and curtail our economic growth."

Georgia is being represented by Frank C. Jones as Special Attorney General after Attorney General Thurbert Baker refused to sue on behalf of the state. Baker said the state lacked a viable legal claim.

The lawsuit was originally filed in federal court in the Northern District of Florida on March 23 just after President Barack Obama signed the measure into law.
