Woman charged in Athens, Georgia bookstore thefts

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - Athens-Clarke County police have arrested a
former bookkeeper on charges she embezzled thousands of dollars
from a Christian book and gift shop.

Police say the woman, 36-year-old Vadra Lynn Craven, was
arrested Monday and is charged with 19 counts of theft by taking
for stealing from The Carpenter's Shop.

Shop owner Brian Hill says the investigation began in October,
when his accountant discovered that more than $31,000 had gone
missing since the previous March.

Detective Beverly Russell said she determined the amount of
missing money approached $40,000.

A judge set a bond of $95,000 for Craven's release.
