Former Polk County Jailer Indicted

ATLANTA (AP) - A federal grand jury has indicted a former sergeant at the Polk County jail on a felony charge of using excessive force against an inmate.

The former jailer, 25-year-old Joshua David Lowe of Aragon, Ga., is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Walter E. Johnson in Rome.

The indictment handed down Thursday says Lowe was working as a
detention officer when he allegedly used excessive force in striking an inmate at the jail.

The Polk County Sheriff's Department asked the FBI to investigate. Lowe was terminated as a result of the incident.
