MACON, Ga. (AP) - Bibb County plans to protest results of a new
survey of its boundary with Monroe County, which could remove 400
parcels of property from Bibb tax rolls.
The survey and report were submitted last week. Officials have
until April 28 to file the protest with Secretary of State Karen
Handel, who will determine the 12 1/2-mile boundary.
Although the border has been disputed off and on for years,
tempers flared most recently with the announcement that the Bass
Pro Shops complex was going to be built along Interstate 75 near
the county line on what appeared to be the Bibb side.
With millions of dollars in tax revenue at stake, a Monroe
County grand jury asked Gov. Sonny Perdue to order the survey.
