ATLANTA (AP) - A last-ditch effort to revive Sunday sales at the
state Capitol has fallen flat.

The state Senate on Monday tabled a bill that supporters had hoped would open the door for Georgia stores to sell alcohol on Sundays.

State Sen. Seth Harp tried to tack on Sunday sales as an amendment to an alcohol licensing bill.

Instead, senators adopted another amendment to crack down on stores who sell alcohol to minors.

It also gutted the Sunday sales provision. Senators then voted to table the bill.

Georgia is one of three states that ban stores from selling all alcoholic beverages on Sunday.

Harp's amendment would have allowed local communities to decide
whether Sunday alcohol sales should be permitted.
