CANTON, Ga. (AP) - The Cherokee County public school system may
eliminate 304 positions for the 2009-2010 school year.

The move is aimed at saving $8.5 million.

School superintendent Frank Petruzielo is recommending the cuts,
which would not be officially approved until July.

The cuts would affect 144 teachers who work part-time or job
share, 80 kindergarten paraprofessional teachers and 80 special
education parapros.

The Cherokee County system is among many in the state
considering job cuts or furloughs.
