Staffers find infant outside Marietta hospital

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) - A newborn baby was found alive in a
wheelchair near the emergency room at a Marietta hospital.

Marietta police said the infant girl was spotted Tuesday at
about 4 a.m. by staffers at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital.

Police said the baby was about 3 hours old.

She was examined and was reportedly in good condition.

The infant was turned over to the Department of Family and Children's Services.

Police are searching for the mother.

Georgia has a "safe haven" law that allow women to anonymously
leave infants at a hospital emergency room within 7 days of birth.
