Civil Rights Icon Lowery Out of Hospital

ATLANTA, Ga. (AP) - The Rev. Joseph Lowery has been released
from an Atlanta hospital.

The 88-year-old civil rights icon was hospitalized Sunday after
suffering a dizzy spell as he greeted parishioners at Ebenezer Baptist Church, where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once preached.

Lowery was the keynote speaker Sunday to mark Ebenezer's 123rd
anniversary.

The church's senior pastor says Lowery had preached for about 40
minutes, and then grew weak and lost his balance while shaking hands.

In a telephone interview from his home, Lowery said he "just got overheated," adding that a doctor told him to "slow down."

Lowery is a co-founder of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and gave the benediction at President Barack Obama's
inauguration in January.
